About Me - Detail

I am the proud mother of two sons, Conor and Morgan. They are my greatest achievements. Conor, my oldest, is a full-time firefighter in South Carolina.  Morgan, my younger son, is mechanical engineer in the defense industry and an Independent Distributor for Young Living.

Morgan was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and was never expected to walk, let alone achieve a bachelor’s degree in the engineering field.  His prognosis was fair at best.  As a nurse, I naturally turned to traditional medicine to help him.  My faith guided me to groups of wonderful people who helped me to incorporate a variety of holistic approaches in his care.

I believe with my whole heart that the combination of traditional and holistic modalities combined with Morgan’s can-do attitude, resulted in a young man who can walk with canes and braces, is an accomplished skier and ski instructor and who easily puts in 7,000-10,000 steps per day.  The lessons learned while caring for Morgan turned out to be priceless 14 years down the line when Conor broke his back in a freak accident and was paralyzed from the waist down.  These same modalities combined with faith and prayer resulted in a full recovery for Conor.

Nursing has been my passion since graduating from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing (SFHSN) in Hartford, CT in 1979.  SFHSN is where the concept of health being comprised of physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing, was ingrained in my practice.  One of my passions is to learn new things.  I continued with my education over the years, obtaining my bachelor’s degree in nursing, then a master’s degree in nursing and finally a post-graduate certificate in Holistic Nursing from the University of CT and a certification as a Nurse Life Coach.
I have tried many times over the years to get the toxins out of my life.  I am always on the go and busy living life doing the things I am passionate about.  As a result, it is easier (and tasted better) to eat out, or to grab the standard cleaning products and pharmaceuticals vs read the labels and pay attention to the chemicals and junk I put into my body.  My drink of choice for over 30 years was TAB!  I easily drank 2 liters a day, every day, beginning the first day of nursing school.  I loved the taste and was a total TAB-a-holic.
I was so addicted to the flavor that I would take it with me when I traveled out of fear that I wouldn’t find it in the store.  Fortunately (I really mean fortunately) I was in a ski accident in 2012 that severely affected my balance.  I decided to do a 30-day cleanse to help restore my balance.  After 30 days being TAB-free, I decided to try to go without it.  The issue was I couldn’t find anything I loved the taste of the way I loved and still craved TAB.  Fast forward to 2014 when I started learning about and using essential oils.

A dear friend had been talking to me about essential oils.  Given my use of holistic modalities, it seemed like a natural progression into my exploration of holistic modalities.  But, the time never seemed right because I was too busy putting the time into learning something new.  I kept putting it off until I found myself in a situation where someone very special to me had health care issues and the traditional means of treatment presented multiple side effects.  As is often the case, life presented me with a challenge and I looked for an opportunity to meet the challenge head on.  In this case it was with essential oils.
My friend had already done the research on the various oil company options available.  I picked up where she left off and did a little more research.  Her decision to go with Young Living was spot on!  Young Living represented everything I valued in a quality company who is transparent in their business practices.  Their Seed to Seal standard spoke to my heart.  I knew without a doubt I could trust this company and as a result could save time in researching labels (labels are not transparent) and praying the labels were truthful.  Even better, Young Living is more than essential oils. It is a clean way of life, incorporating essential oils into their entire product line ……. essential oils, oil infused supplements, makeup, nutritional products, personal products such as hair care / skin care etc., pet line, kids and baby line, cleaning products and more.
You would think my nursing background would make the progression into the essential oil world easy and natural.  Truthfully, my knowledge of the body and how it works helped, but it was a whole new learning arena for me.  After about 6 weeks of using the essential oils that came in my Premium Starter Kit I found that I started to think like the oils.  Instead of reaching for something in the cabinet I would stop and think “what oil would provide the action I needed”.  Without even realizing it (I would learn more about this over time), I was purging my body of physical, emotional and spiritual toxins as I used essential oils and oil infused products.  One day I noticed I didn’t crave TAB anymore!!!  I found a drink I adored (NingXia Red with seltzer) and better yet, my body was repelled by chemical / synthetic tastes and aromas.  My life had changed forever, and it was an easy and natural progression.
Approximately two years into my oily journey I listened to a discussion on the toxins in our homes and it changed my life forever.  Learning that we take 300 or more chemical toxins into our bodies daily, from our home alone (woman take in approximately 80 toxins before leaving the house) shook me to the core.  The direction of my life took a permanent change.  I was no longer content to simply use oils with family and friends.  It became my mission to educate as many people as I could regarding the effects of toxins in their lives (physical, emotional and spiritual).  More importantly, my mission was and is to empower others to take back the control and rid their lives of toxins that affect their health.
I love the following quote by Benjamin Franklin:

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.”

These words sum up where I currently am in my life and profession. For myself, I have found that the things that I remember are the things that I am physically involved in. If I simply read an article or listen to a lecture, without putting the teachings into practice, I forget them. It is only when I incorporate new knowledge into my daily life that I learn and remember the data.

I am dedicated to helping people to learn how easy it is to incorporate oils and oil infused products into their daily life.  My style of teaching is both verbal and hands on.  I have found that the combination of the two result in individuals who are equipped to make healthy and holistic changes in their lives, just as I did.  The most exciting part is that they then teach these same skills to their family and friends.   Ben Franklin certainly knew what he was talking about when he said, “involve me and I learn”!  My only regret in my oil journey is that I didn’t start it sooner, especially when my kids were little.  Better late than never!!!  Welcome to the journey…………….
